Advent Study – DAY 9

The Promise

of Resurrection

Celebrating the

HOPE of Resurrection!

Hook Up 2God’s “Risky Chance” for True Love:  God really wants to know you!  While we cannot understand the infinite mind of God, he did a very risky thing – He gave each soul sovereignty – a mind and will of their own.  Simply put, your choices are really your choices - for good or for bad.  This was the only way He could be assured that our relationship with him was based on “true love” and not mindless coercion. Love must be a free choice to be love.  The risk He took was that we could believe the lies of ourself or Satan, and choose evil.  We could reject His love.  That was risky – but it was for “true love”.

Tree SEPARATION 2Evil Demands a Price:  Newsflash:  There is no such thing as a “good witch”, nor can we redefine willful separation from our Creator for any reason as “good” – no matter how pure our intentions might seem.  Fact:  Adam and Eve blew it … – they sinned against God and tried to hide their broken relationship (Romans 5:12).  The price was enormous. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone since Adam has sinned.  Our separation from God’s purity requirement had begun.  Second Newsflash:  We cannot redefine God’s requirement of a pure heart to join Him in Heaven.  These are His rules.  Sin and separation are serious, and demand death for cleansing.  To solve this for a fallen world, in the Old Testament God allowed us to sacrifice animals.  Their loss of blood and life paid the price for His forgiveness.  Evil always demands a price.

A New Covenant for Christmas:  Good News!  At Christmas, Jesus came to pay sin’s debt once and for all.  He became the perfect sacrifice for our sins.  God accepted his sacrifice and allowed Jesus to offer it as a gift to us, if we would follow him.  Separation and independence may be thrilling, and look great for awhile.  Intentions may be the best, but they are not God’s rules.  If we want to live in glory after our death, if we want to live in the amazing presence of our Creator’s world right now and forever, we must avoid judgment for sins and be resurrected when we die.  Jesus has provided the only way.  We need to “Hook-Up” to the Father’s will.  He was the only one who could pay for and offer us a new agreement with the Father.  He rose from the depths of hell to the throne of the Father to seal our pardon from our sins.  Jesus led the way to our resurrection, and we can follow him.  He made us a promise!  “Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.’“  (John 11:25 NLT)

Instant Bonus:  The benefits begin immediately as we become part of his new world NOW – the Kingdom of God on earth!  There is still a personal price to pay, however.  We must surrender our will to his will.  Some see this as trading something “broken” for something “new”.  We must then follow his Words.  We must “Hook-Up” as soon as possible, and keep “Hooked-Up” throughout our lives.  Satan’s lies will prove to fail you.  His promises may bring temporary pleasure, power, and pride, but they will end.  God’s Words will not!  On the Advent Card, the Promise of Resurrection is “PROMISED” by Jesus and “FULFILLED” by him when our time on earth is ended.  It pays to be ready.  It pays to enjoy the journey.  It pays to never give up HOPE!  Here are some of Jesus’ Resurrection Messages of HOPE.

Jesus’ “Resurrection”

Messages of HOPE:

  • John 11:25-26 NLT Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.  Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?
  • John 5:25-30 NLT “And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live. The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son.  And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man.   Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son, and they will rise again.  Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.   I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me.  Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.”
  • Luke 14:12-14 NLT “Then he turned to his host. ‘When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,’ he said, ‘don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.’”

Other “Resurrection”

Messages of HOPE:

  • Jeremiah 29:11 ESV “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
  • Romans 15:13 ESV “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
  • Romans 12:12 ESV “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
  • Hebrews 11:1 ESV “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
  • Isaiah 40:31 ESV “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
  • Romans 8:24-25 ESV “For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
  • 1 Peter 1:3 ESV “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, …”
  • Romans 15:4 ESV “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
  • Psalm 39:7 ESV ““And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.”
  • Colossians 1:27 ESV “To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
  • Romans 5:2-5 ESV “Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
  • Romans 5:5 ESV “And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."
  • Proverbs 24:14 ESV “Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”
  • Jeremiah 17:7 ESV ““Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.”

Living Hope

Phil Wickham

Living Hope

How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me

Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, yours is the victory, whoa!

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

Jesus Christ, my living hope
Oh God, you are my living hope
