Advent Study – DAY 16
HOPE – Obeying Jesus
Celebrating the
WORDS and TRUTHS
of God for
“Obeying”
“Obeying” Words: What does it mean to “Obey”? Another word would be “sanctification”, or being “cleansed”. It is the freedom for righteousness we get when we “CLEAN UP” our lives from the bondage of sin and self-will. Other words could include purification, cleansing, made holy, set-apart, consecration (also used in Praise & Enjoy), second-blessing, purification, and filled-with-the-Holy Spirit.
Take 5 Minutes to Read the WORD/TRUTH about the “Obeying” Bulbs: These are only selections. Look up the verses around them. Realize that they all fit together in some way. Increase your passion to know and follow Christs Words of Truth in your life. Every time you trust and believe in them, you are doing something eternal. 1 Peter 1:25 ESV “’But the word of the Lord remains forever.’ And this word is the good news that was preached to you.”
Truth/Obey
- John 14:23 “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.’”
- Psalm 119:43 (NKJV) “And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, For I have hoped in Your ordinances.”
- Romans 16:26-27 NLT “But now as the prophets[a] foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him. All glory to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forever.”
Truth/Warfare
- Psalm 100:5 (NKJV) “For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.”
- 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 ESV “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, ...”
Truth/Pleasure
- Proverbs 21:17 ESV “Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.”
- Hebrews 11:24-25 NLT “It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin.”
- 2 Timothy 2:22 ESV “So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
Truth/Power
- Matthew 22:29 “But Jesus answered and said to them, ‘You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.’”
- Proverbs 3:27 NLT “Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.”
- Proverbs 11:28 ESV “Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a green leaf.”
Truth/Pride
- Psalm 10:4 NIV “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”
- Proverbs 11:2 NIV “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Truth/Navigating

- Psalm 40:11 (NKJV) “Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.”
